Important Changes in Criteria For Counting Low Power DTVs via E-skip

When it comes to DTV DXing, difficulty of reception is more important for DXers than FCC DTV station classifications. The purpose of this page is to keep track of DTV DX feats. Therefore, I recently asked Ed Phelps for suggestions on new criteria to categorize DTV "Low Powered" DTVs. Based on Ed's suggestions, this is the new criteria:
  1. All DTVs with CD, D, and LD suffixes, regardless of power.
  2. All DTVs under 1kW, regardless of FCC classification.
This means WEDY-DT-6 at 400 watts and KREX-DT-2 at 800 watts are considered "low-powered" on this page. If you logged those DTVs, let me know so your stats can be changed to reflect the new criteria.

The "DTV via E-skip" category still includes both full-service and low-power logs.

Now send logs to this email address: oglethorpedxer@gmail.com. Please put "DTV Records" in the subject line.

IF YOU HAVE NEVER SENT ME YOUR LOGS IN THE PAST for distance records via E-skip and tropo, please include the following: Date, time, equipment, and your location.

DTV DX LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT

JEFF KADET

Jeff Kadet of Illinois, North America's first digital TV DXer, passed away in November of 2014.

Jeff began DTV DXing on a computer in 1999, using a prototype DTV tuner that was provided to him by Hauppauge for testing. In fifteen years, Jeff logged 682 DTVs, second only to the number of DTVs logged by Ed Phelps.

As an analog TV DXer, Jeff is first in most TV DX categories, which includes 1,962 analog TV stations logged.

Criteria used for entries in DTV DX Records

The DXer must receive PSIP ID data (calls, station name, remapped channel), video, or both. These are not considered legitimate logs for the purpose of this page: (1) The presence of snow on an analog TV screen; (2) A DTV signal indicated on a STB signal meter or light, scanner, or communications receiver.

Now send logs to this email address: oglethorpedxer@gmail.com. Put "DTV Records" in the subject line.
